BEAGLE

ORIGIN: Great Britain

DATE OF PUBLICATION OF THE ORIGINAL VALID STANDARD: 24.06.1987.

UTILIZATION: Companion dog, guard and toy.

CLASSIFICATION FCI: Group VI: hounds, trailing dogs (except hounds) and related breeds.
Section 1.3 Hounds small size.
With working trial.

GENERAL APPEARANCE: Dog of compact and robust body structure, which gives the impression of quality without coarseness.

FEATURES: This is a happy dog, whose main role is primarily that of the hare hunt following their trail. It is bold and developed a great activity with determination and tenacity. Alert, intelligent and has a temperament.

Temperament is kind and watchful, shows no aggression or shyness.

HEAD: length. It's powerful without being coarse, finer in the female, wrinkle-free and without a frown.

Skull: Slightly domed, moderately wide with a slight occipital crest.

Stop: Well defined, dividing the distance between the occiput and the tip of the nose into two parts as equal as possible.

Nose: Broad, preferably black, but is allowed attenuated pigmentation-colored specimens. Large windows.

Muzzle: It is pointed, lips reasonably developed.

Eyes: dark brown or hazel, fairly large, neither sunken nor prominent, well separated from each other, with a sweet and sympathetic expression.

Ears: Long, with rounded tip which reaches near the tip of the nose when the ears are directed forward. Set on low, fine in texture, hanging gracefully close to cheeks.

Jaws / Teeth: Jaws should be strong with a perfect scissor bite, regular and complete, ie the upper teeth closely overlapping lower teeth and set square to the jaws.

NECK: Sufficiently long to enable hound for tracking lean, slightly arched and shows a small chin.

BODY: Topline: Straight and level.

Loin: Short, but well balanced, powerful and flexible, without being excessively raised.

Chest: Let down to below the elbows.

Ribs: Well sprung and extending well back.


TIPS:

Forequarters Forelegs straight, vertical, and well under the body, with good substance and round bone unabated until the feet.

Shoulders laid back, not heavy.

Elbows: Firm turning neither in nor out. The height to the elbow is almost half the height at the withers.

Pastern: Short.

Hindquarters: Thighs muscular. Knees bent. Hocks firm, well let down parallel to each other.

FEET: Tight and firm. Well articulated, with pads. No liebre.Uñas feet short.

TAIL: Strong and moderately long. Set on high, carried gaily but not curled over back or inclined forward from root. Well covered with hair, especially on the bottom.

MOVEMENT: Back level, firm, and the dog is not balanced in their movement. Stride free, with a long reach in front and straight without high action; hind show good momentum. Must not present a narrow movement, not a circular motion or crossing out in front.


COAT

HAIR: Short, dense, weather resistant.

COLOUR: Any recognized color for Hound, except liver color. The tip of the tail is white.

SIZE: Height at the withers desirable minimum of 33 cm (13 inches). Desirable maximum height at the withers of 40 cm (16 inches).

FAULTS: Any departure from the foregoing points should be considered a fault and the seriousness of this is considered the degree of deviation from the standard.

NOTE: Male animals should have two apparently normal testicles fully descended into the scrotum.
