CHIHUAHUEÑO
ORIGIN: Mexico.

BRIEF HISTORICAL SUMMARY: The Chihuahueño race is considered the world's smallest, is called the largest state of the Mexican Republic (Chihuahua), which is supposed to have lived in the wild and was captured and domesticated by the Indians during the time of civilization "Toltec" pigmy figures of a dog called "Techichi" which lived in Tula, were included in the decoration of the architecture which were very similar to the current Chihuahueño.
GENERAL APPEARANCE: Dog compact body, being of paramount importance to note that his head is cut into blocks and a moderately long tail carried high arch or semicircle, with the tip pointing towards the back.
IMPORTANT PROPORTIONS: The length is slightly longer than height at withers, wishing an almost square body, especially in males, allowing a little longer in the females of reproductive function.
BEHAVIOUR / TEMPERAMENT: Lively, alert, restless and very courageous.
HEAD
CRANIAL REGION
Skull: Well rounded, cut into blocks (special feature of this race).
Fronto-nasal depression (stop): Well marked, deep and wide as a result of the bulging forehead on the insertion of the muzzle.
FACIAL REGION
Nose: Moderately short and slightly upturned, any color is allowed.
Muzzle: Short, seen in profile keeps a straight line, being wider at its base and tapering towards the tip.
Lips: Clean and tight.
Cheeks: Not very developed and very clean.
Jaws / Teeth: Scissors bite or level (as a clamp), the upper or lower prognathism are severely penalized, and any maxillary or mandibular deformation.
Eyes: Large, round, very expressive, never protruding, perfectly dark. Light eyes are permitted but not desired.
Ears: Large, erect and widely deployed open, broad at the base, gradually reduced until the end slightly rounded at the tip. While resting at an angle of 45 ° to the sides.
NECK
Upper profile: Slightly arched.
Length: Medium.
Shape: Thicker in dogs than in females.
Skin: No dewlap, long-haired variety has a mane of longer hair is highly desirable.
BODY: Compact and well structured.
Topline: Straight.
Cruz: Just checked.
Back: Short and firm.
Loins: Strongly muscled.
Croup: Broad and strong, almost flat or slightly sloping.
Chest: With chest broad and deep, ribs well sprung, viewed from the front have good range, without excess, seen in profile down to the elbow, never barrel-shaped.
Lower profile: Determined by ventral retraction, which should be well delineated. The loose belly is permitted but not desired.
TAIL: Moderately long, set high, broad at the base gradually reduced towards the tip, is flat in appearance. The bearing is a prominent feature of the race, moving is high, arched or semicircle with the tip pointing towards the back, giving balance to the body, never appears sandwiched between the members or curled below the topline of the back. Cover hair in harmony with the rest of the body depending on variety. In the long haired variety is covered with hair as a feather, at rest it hangs with a slight hook.
TIPS
Forequarters:
General appearance: Viewed from the front appear straight with the elbow, seen in profile, vertical.
Shoulders: Clean, moderately muscled.
Arm (humerus): Well angulated at the shoulder joint.
Elbows: Firm and close to the body, allowing freedom of movement.
Forearm: Strong with good length.
Pastern: Slightly sloping, strong and flexible.
Front feet: The feet are very small and oval, with fingers spread, but not issued (not hare nor cat), the nails are particularly curved and moderately long, with the pads well developed and very elastic. Dewclaws are undesirable.
Hindquarters:
General appearance: Well muscled, long bone, well poised and parallel to each other with good angulation at the coxo-femoral joints, femoral-tibial-knee and hock according to former members.
Hocks: Hocks short, with well developed tendons, seen from behind are separated, straight and vertical.
Hind feet: The feet are very small and oval, with fingers spread, but not issued (not hare nor cat), the nails are particularly curved and moderately long, with the pads well developed and very elastic. Dewclaws are undesirable.
MOTION: It has a long stride and flexible, strong and active with good reach and good drive earlier post. Viewed from behind, hindlegs remain almost parallel to each other, placing the hind feet in the footprints of the above. Members tend to converge toward a central line of gravity as speed increases. They show great flexibility and freedom, without any effort, with head carried high and back straight.
SKIN: Smooth and elastic all over the body surface.
COAT
Hair: There are two varieties in this breed.
Smooth variety: Short and pasted into the body, slightly longer when it presents inner layer (undercoat) shortages are allowed in the throat and abdomen. It is slightly longer on neck and tail, short on face and ears, is glossy and its texture. Copies are not accepted without hair.
Variety Longhair: The coat should be fine and silky, straight or slightly wavy inner layer is desired (undercoat) not very dense. It presents very long hair as a feather on the ears, neck, back of forelegs and hind legs, feet and tail. No copies are accepted with long hair and fluffy.
Color: All colors are accepted in all shades and combinations, except the blackbird.
SIZE AND WEIGHT: The size should not be taken into account in this race, only the weight.
Weight: Ideal weight between 1.5 kg and 3 kg. They are tolerated dogs between 500 gr and 1.5 kg. Copies will be disqualified with less than 500 grams and more than 3 kg.
FAULTS: Any departure from the foregoing points should be considered a fault and the seriousness of it is considered the degree of deviation from the standard and its impact on health and welfare of the dog.

Bite deformed.

Dogs have very long hair, fine and fluffy on the long-haired variety.

Weight less than 500 gr. or greater than 3 kg.
NOTE: Male animals should have two apparently normal testicles fully descended into the scrotum.
