ORIGIN: Great Britain

DATE OF PUBLICATION OF OFFICIAL VALID STANDARD: 13.10.2010.

UTILIZATION: Companion dog and deterrence.

CLASSIFICATION FCI:

Group 2 Pinscher and Schnauzer - dogs Molossian type and Swiss Mountain and Cattle.
Section 2.1 Molossian, Mastiff type. Without working trial.

BRIEF HISTORICAL SUMMARY: The Bulldog, was first classified as such in 1630 by its previous mention of a similar type bandog referred to a term used today for fighting dogs. Originally used to fight bulls, the Bulldogs fought their way and from 1835 began to develop in an expensive version shorter and stocky with what we know today. He joined the show ring in 1860 and the following years showed a great change of personality. A delightfully ugly dog fighter with an expression of showing affection, affectionate nature towards family and friends. One of the oldest breeds known as the national dog of Britain and everyone associated with measurements and the legendary British John Bull.

GENERAL APPEARANCE: A dog with short hair, something heavy, rather low in stature, broad, powerful and compact. Head rather large in proportion to its size, but no part of your body should be too large in relation to the others as to destroy the general symmetry, or make the dog appear deformed, or interfere with its ability to move. Head relatively short, muzzle broad, blunt and inclined slightly upward but not too excessive. Dogs showing respiratory problems are highly undesirable. Body rather short, with good structure. Members strong, well muscled and strong without a tendency to obesity. Hindquarters high and strong. Bitches not so developed as dogs.

BEHAVIOUR / TEMPERAMENT: You must give the impression of determination, strength and activity. Alert, bold, loyal, dependable, courageous, fierce in appearance, but possessed of affectionate nature.

HEAD: Viewed from the side, the head is very high and moderately short from back to the tip of the nose. Front flat with skin upon and about head, loose and finely wrinkled slightly without excess or protruding prominently never face. The face from the cheek bone to nose, relatively short, with the skin may be slightly wrinkled. The distance from the inner corner of eye (or the center of the stop-frontal between the eyes) to extreme tip of the nose should not be less than the distance from the tip of nose to edge of underlip.

CRANIAL REGION:
Skull: Skull relatively large in circumference. Seen from the front is high from corner of lower jaw to the top of the skull, too broad and square. From the stop, a furrow extends to the middle of the skull and may continue his line to the apex.
Frontal-nasal depression (stop): Defined.

FACIAL REGION: Viewed from front, the various properties of the face must be equally balanced to both sides of an imaginary center line.
Nose: Nose and nostrils large, broad and black, under no circumstances liver color, red or brown. Nostrils large wide and open, with a well defined line, vertical and straight in between.
Muzzle: Muzzle short, broad, upturned, deep from the corner of the eye to the corner of the lips.
The wrinkle on the nose, if present, complete or broken, you should never adversely affect or hide the eyes or nose. Nostrils narrow, heavy on the nose wrinkle are unacceptable and should be penalized severely.
Lips: Lips thick, broad, and deep, covering the sides of the lower jaw, but attaching the lower lip in the front. Teeth not visible.
Jaws and teeth: Jaws broad, strong and square, lower jaw projecting slightly forward of the top with a moderate inclination upwards. Jaws broad and square with six small front teeth between canines in a row partner. Canines wide apart, large, strong teeth that should not be seen when the mouth is closed. When viewed from the front lower jaw is just below the top and parallel to it.
Cheeks: Cheeks well rounded and extending laterally beyond the eyes.
Eyes: Seen from front, situated low down in skull, well away from ears. The eyes and naso-frontal depression are in a straight line at right angles to furrow. Well apart, but outer corners within the outline of cheeks. Round, of moderate size, neither sunken nor prominent, very dark, almost black, showing no white when looking directly forward. Free from obvious eye problems.
Ears: Set high, meaning that the front edge of each ear (front) joins outline of skull at top corner, so they are as much apart, as high and separated from his eyes as possible. Small and thin "rose-shaped ears" is correct, ie internal wrinkles fall backward, the upper or front inner, curving outwards and backwards, showing part of inside of burr.

NECK: Of moderate length, very thick, deep and strong. Well arched at the top, with some loose skin, thick and wrinkled skin about throat, forming a slight dewlap on each side.

BODY:
Topline: falls slightly to the back behind the tip of the shoulder blades (this is the lowest part) whence spine should rise to the spine (point higher than the cross), curving again more suddenly to tail, forming a slight arc a hallmark of the breed.
Back: Back short, strong, broad at the height of the shoulders. Chest: Chest wide, prominent and deep. Body with well-defined ribs back. Thorax rounded and deep. Well let down between forelegs. Ribs not being flat on the sides, well rounded
Underline and Belly: Tucked up belly and droopy.

TAIL: Set low, leaving more straight and then turning downwards. Round, smooth and devoid of fringe or coarse hair. Of moderate length, rather short than long, thick at root, tapering quickly to a fine point. It should be carried down (without having a clear upward curve at the tip) and never carried above the level of the top line. Absence of tail, tails too tight inverted or undesirable.
