BRIEF HISTORICAL SUMMARY: It is with certainty that James Hinks, who was the first to standardize the type of the race in 1850 selected the egg-shaped heads. The breed was first exhibited in its current form in 1862 in Birmingham . The Bull Terrier Club was formed in 1887. The real interest in the breed standard says is that really the purpose. "There is no limit on weight or height, but must give the impression of maximum substance for size of dog matching the quality and sex. Dogs must always be balanced.
Smaller copies Bull Terrier were known since the early 19 but had no host to the First World War and were excluded from the Kennel Club registration in 1918. In 1938 a revival was led by Colonel Richard Glyn and a group of enthusiasts who formed the Club of Bull Terrier Miniature. The standard is the same as the Bull Terrier with the exception of when the height limit.

GENERAL APPEARANCE: Dog Strongly built, muscular, well balanced and active with a keen expression, determined and intelligent. A unique feature is that his head no fronto-nasal depression (stop) and is shaped like an egg. Irrespective of size dogs should look masculine and bitches feminine.



BEHAVIOUR AND TEMPERAMENT: Courageous, full of spirit and fun loving attitude. Even-tempered and obedient. Although obstinate, is particularly friendly.

HEAD: Long, strong and deep to the tip of the snout, but not coarse. Front View should take the form of an egg and be completely filled, its surface free from hollows or indentations. Seen in profile, it curves gently downwards from top of skull to the tip of the nose.

CRANIAL REGION
Skull: The top of the skull almost flat between the ears.

FACIAL REGION
Nose: Should be black and bent downwards at tip. The windows are well developed.
Lips: Clean and tight.
Jaws / Teeth: jaw deep and strong. Teeth sound, clean, strong, good size, with a perfectly regular and complete scissor bite perfectly regular, ie the inside of the upper incisors are in close contact with the outside of the overlapping lower teeth and set square jaws.
Eyes: Appearing narrow and triangular, obliquely placed, black or as dark brown as possible so as to appear almost black and a shiny look. The distance from tip of nose to eyes perceptibly greater than that from eyes to occiput. The eyes of blue or partly blue undesirable.
Ears: Small, thin and placed close together. The dog should be able to hold them stiffly erect when they point straight upwards.

NECK: Very muscular, long, arched, tapering from shoulders to head and without loose skin.

BODY: Well rounded, with well sprung ribs, and great depth from withers to brisket, so that latter nearer ground than belly.
Back: Short, strong, with backline behind withers level, arching is slightly towards the loin.
Loin: Broad and well muscled.
Chest: Seen from the front, the chest is broad.
Underline and Belly: From brisket to belly forms a graceful upward curve.

TAIL: Short, set low and carried horizontally. Thick at the base and tapering to a fine point.

TIPS

Forequarters:
General appearance: The dog must have good poise and perfectly parallel. In mature dogs length of foreleg should be approximately equal to the depth of the chest.
Shoulders: Strong and muscular, but not heavy. Shoulder blades wide, flat and held closely to the chest, well laid from bottom to top, forming almost a right angle to the forearm.
Elbow: Straight and strong.
Arms: Forelegs strong, round bone.
Pastern: Upright.
Feet: Round and compact with well arched toes.

Hindquarters
General appearance: Viewed from behind the hindquarters are parallel.
Thighs: Muscular.
Stifle: Well angulated.
Thigh: Well developed.
Hock joint: Well bent.
Hock: Short, strong bones to their feet.
Feet: Round and compact with well arched toes.

GAIT / MOVEMENT: When moving appears well knit, smoothly covering ground with easy strides and with a typical jaunty air. When trotting, movement parallel to the front and back, only converging towards a central point at faster speeds. Forelegs out well and hindlegs moving smoothly at hip, flexing well at stifle and hock, with great thrust.

SKIN: Attached to the body.

MANTLE
Hair: Short, flat, harsh to touch with a fine gloss. In winter you can grow an undercoat soft texture.

COLOR: For White, Pure White. The skin pigmentation and markings on the head are not penalized. Color copies, color predominates, in other things being equal, brindle preferred. The colors black, brindle, red, fawn and tricolor acceptable. Are undesirable Tick markings in white coat. Blue and liver highly undesirable.

SIZE AND WEIGHT: There are no height or weight limits, but there should give the impression of maximum substance consistent with quality and sex.



Bull Terrier Miniature

The Miniature Bull Terrier standard is the same as for the Bull Terrier, except as follows:

SIZE AND WEIGHT: Height should not exceed 35.5 cm.
Should give an impression of substance to size of dog. There is no limit on weight. The specimen must be harmonious at all times.

FAULTS: Any departure from the foregoing points should be considered a fault and the seriousness with which is considered the degree of deviation from the standard and its impact on health and welfare of the dog.

Disqualifying fouls:

Aggressive or fearful.



Any dog clearly showing physical or behavioral abnormalities shall be disqualified.



NB : Male animals should have two apparently normal testicles fully descended into the scrotum.
